Rachel: actress, the mistress of Saint-Loup; when the Narrator meets her in a brothel he nicknames her "Rachel when from the Lord"
Rampillon, Mme de: at Mme de Saint-Euverte's the Duchess de Guermantes refers to her as "that appalling Rampillon woman"
Rapin, M.: chemist at Combray
Réjane, French actress (1856-1920)
Rémi: Swann's coachman
Restaurateur: proprietor of a restaurant in Paris where the Narrator dines with Saint-Loup
Rich Young Man: an invert whose mistress "flushed out the game" (see Vaudémont, Marquis Maurice)
Rosemonde: member of the little band at Balbec
Rozier, Jacques du: name adopted by Bloch late in the novel
